Terrence Perry was born and raised in Franklin county in the small town of Louisburg NC. After graduating high school, he went to St. Augustine University in 1979, majored in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. In 1984 Terrence started his career at John Umstead Hospital as a mental health technician working with adolescent teens diagnosed with issues of abuse, addiction and abandonment.
By 1990 Terrence transferred to Central Prison as a Correctional officer and by 1995 transferred to C.A. Dillon Training School as a Behavioral Specialist until leaving in 1999. Terrence transferred to Dorothea Dix Hospital in 2000 while preparing to go in the Group Home business from 2001 to 2009. Terrence started S.T.E.P. (Structured Therapeutic Environmental Programs). After selling his part of the business in 2009, Perry went to work with Job Corp as a career counselor in 2010 then worked at Holly Hill Hospital as a mental health technician for the next three years.
In 2013, Perry was certified by Wake county as a Life Coach and in 2014, Perry recertified as a Christian Life Coach at HIS Coach Training Academy. Perry wrote his first book in 2014, “Coaching in The Game of Life” and have written two books a year consecutively since then, now an 18 X’s Author. In 2015 , Perry joined Justice Served NC as a Court Advocate and in 2016, contracted with Fathers Forever as a life coach and Peer Support Specialist. Perry became a Certified Restorative Circle facilitator in 2018 and began his men’s healing groups with local churches while also getting involved with several racial and social justice advocacy groups.
Perry is now part of Franklin County Reentry Council and assisting men and women who are justice involved with coming home and being productive with self, in the home and community.
